It’s been a while since we last heard from DITO, the third competing telecommunication company in the Philippines. Although the company has yet to release any update since its private meeting with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II, its server on Ookla’s Speedtest website has been recently spotted.
While the result seems promising, it does confirm that the internet service provider (ISP) is Globe Telecom. After all, all you need is an internet connection and you can choose any server that’s available from Ookla. And judging by the look of it, the speed test was probably made via a fixed connection. However, it does tell us that DITO is still pushing for its 37% area coverage by July despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of the requirements provided by the government is at least 27 megabits per second (Mbps) which is currently above the 23.80Mbps average download speed of the country.
