Suncity to keep Manila junket business, casino project with Andrew Tan

Suncity Group remains committed to doing business in the Philippines amid Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.’s announcement that Asia’s dominant casino junket operator has “left” the country.

Suncity said it would continue its casino junket operations and its casino project with bilyonaryo Andrew Tan, the $700 million casino and hotel Manila’s Westside City Resorts World where it has a 51 percent stake.

In a report by Inside Asian Gaming, the Macau-based firm said: “Suncity Group spares no effort to develop itself as a global integrated VIP entertainment conglomerate. The junket business in Manila is definitely important to us and we can’t find any reason to leave Manila at this particular moment.”

“We will continue to develop our VIP entertainment business in licensed gaming operators in Manila, and provide seamless VIP services to our guests,” it added.

Suncity was reacting to Pagcor chair Andrea Domingo’s confirmation that “Suncity has left…there are others more that are leaving the Philippines.”

Suncity clarified that it was only terminating its license to operate Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO).

“In regards to the comment provided by Mdm Andrea Domingo, we think she is referring to telebetting services, which has nothing to do with the junket business that Suncity Group operates in Manila,” Suncity said.

Suncity’s move to abandon POGO is part of the company’s thrust to exist from offshore casinos with the end of 138.com, its offshore casino website serving gamblers in China last month. Suncity has come udner pressure from its shareholders to heed China President Xi Jinping’s crackdown on offshore casinos that have led to increasing crimes and social problems among Chian’s citizenry. - Bilyonaryo.com.ph
