Construction for the MRT-7 is going at full speed, notwithstanding the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila. The train line will carry passengers from Quezon City to Caloocan, and Bulacan and is expected to spur business in those suburbs.
The original proposal for the train line was submitted in 2001, but construction started only 4 years ago and it is now under the Build, Build, Build project. As of July 14, the MRT-7 is more than halfway done, with a 58.95 percent completion rate. If the schedule is followed, it could open for partial operations as early as 2021.
The 22-kilometer rail line, which will stretch across North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan, is set to have 14 stations. Travel time between those points currently takes up 2 to 3 hours, but the new train line will cut this down to just 35 minutes.
Once operational, the rail line is expected to ferry 300,000 to 850,000 commuters daily, with an allowance for increased ridership in the future. The Department of Transportation shared a video of the line's route on Facebook.
