My first time attending the Philly Comics Expo (PCX) on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, and I enjoyed it very much! Great job organizing it, Gina and Tom of Partners and Son, fun weekend! There were satellite events during that weekend tied to PCX, like the Noah Van Sciver art exhibit opening at Partners and Son on Friday evening. The opening also had a Colin Blanchette interview with Noah Van Sciver, many local cartoonists and fans in attendance. Blanchette worked on the American Cartoonist: The Comic Art of Noah Van Sciver monograph of his original art throughout his career, published by Sean and Deborah Watkins' Athenaeum Comic Art; the monograph was released the week prior to Van Sciver's Partners and Son exhibit opening and interview. But the official release of the monograph was with the opening and interview. Before Noah's interview, we got to visit Charles Burns and see his magnificent studio/study and then to end the night, we went to dinner and cartoonist Joseph Lambert joined us! The other satellite event was on Sunday, which I unfortunately missed since I flew home Saturday evening after PCX, was the opening of Philly Comics Now exhibit at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery in Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. From what I saw on social media posts, the exhibit looked top notch and awesome. Dang, I missed out! There was also an afterparty on Saturday evening at Partners and Son with Frances Beaver, Em Frank and Sally Madden. Philly is a nice place to visit for a weekend, especially if the weather was sunny like it was this past year. And I hope PCX becomes a festival that is highly regarded and anticipated by fans and cartoonists to attend and enjoy for years to come! Philadelphia is fast becoming the major indie/alternative comics scene of up and comers with Gina and Tom's Partners and Son and PCX celebrating all those talents. PCX 2025 will be held on October 4th, 2025.
