Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the official announced Wednesday,
"Nais ko pong ipahayag sa lahat ng aking minamahal na QCitizens na ako po ay nag-positibo sa aking huling COVID-19 test," she said in a statement posted on the Quezon City government Facebook page.
Belmonte said she has no symptoms and has been following the quarantine protocols set by the Department of Health.
She added her office in the Quezon City Hall as well as common areas of the building have been closed for disinfection.
Belmonte said she was not surprised that she contracted the virus, following visits to health centers and hospitals, and other lockdown areas.
"Batid na naming posibleng mangyari ito. Pero hindi ko po ito pinagsisisihan. Inihanda ko na po ang aking sarili at buong puso ko po itong tinatanggap," she said.
On Tuesday, DOH said it was monitoring Quezon City due to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. By: ABS-CBN News
