A government official did not like a certain tweet of PTV4 talk show host Jules Guiang, so he was subsequently sent a letter, informing him that 'his services will no longer be required'.
Guiang is a former University of the Philippines student leader who was hired by PTV4 as a news reporter in 2012, due to his boldness in voicing his opinion on current events and controversial issues.
After eight years however, his boldness will also be the reason for his dismissal.
Some of Jules' programs on PTV4 are Good Morning Boss, Good Morning Pilipinas, Bagong Pilipinas, Iskoolmates, Sulong Pilipinas, and the DILG show Tayo Na and the Kalayaan Playlist.
On June 20, Jules tweeted his opinion about the hearing of the Committee on Legislative Franchises on the renewal of ABS-CBN's franchise application.
"Defensor grills ABS-CBN for hiring people under diff contracts, like some aren’t regularized.
Check govt’s backyard, thousands aren’t regularized. Ex: I’m on my 8th year in PTV w/o benefits, no employer-employee status. Job orders are a thing in govt & private sector.
We’re all for regularization, for a living wage, etc. I just find this argument hypocritical to be used against a network that is trying to renew their franchise. Maybe it’s a wake up call for the industry to treat their people fairly pero ‘wag naman ipitin ang dos dahil dito.”
Guiang's tweet, which was passed on social media by ABS-CBN employees, reached government officials..
Allegedly, a government official did not like Jules' statement and his succeeding tweets.
On July 20, the management of the government-owned station told him that his service was no longer needed. (via PEP)
