A total of 1,171 telco permits have already been approved with only 428 new applications pending, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Monday.
In a late night briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte, Año said local government units are complying with the directive to expedite processing and the approval of the permits.
“Ang natira na lang po is 428 applications. Puro bago na po ito so ibig sabihin ay complying at very commendatory po ‘yong Manila LGU kasi one time lahat talaga po in-approve po nila so wala ng pending sa Manila so I hope lahat ng LGUs will follow,” he said.
Año added that telcos no longer have reasons to say they are having difficulty constructing towers as there is already a provision in the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or the Bayanihan 2 on the automatic rollout of telcos.
“Sa Bayanihan 2, pinakinggan din po ang inyong utos. May isang provision sa Bayanihan 2 na ang automatic rollout ng telcos sa pagtatayo ng Pasig Telecom Tower Infrastructure. Winaive na po lahat ng mga requirements dito except building permit and height clearance permit,” he said.
“Automatic po pag mag-comply ‘yong permit, approve na po and this will go on up to the next three years so I don’t think may reason pa po ang ating mga telcos na sabihing nahihirapan sila,” Año added.
