LOOK: Ongpin’s fortune shrank by $600 million in July, Villar lone gainer


The country’s billionaires lost a combined $1.2 billion in July 2020 with Metro Manila and other urban centers under general community quarantine (GCQ).

The 14 billionaires on Forbes’ real-time list of the world’s wealthiest humans had total assets of $32.9 in July, down 3.5 percent from $34.1 billion in June.

The biggest loser in July is former Marcos Trade Minister Bobby Ongpin who accounted for half the billionaires’s losses.

Ongpin’s fortune shrank by $600 million to $1.2 billion in July.

The richest Filipino, Manny Villar, was the lone gainer as he added $300 million in his fortune to $5 billion in 30 days.

Villar is the only Filipino on Bloomberg’s Top 500 billionaires at No. 495. Villar was pegged with $4.5 billion as of July, down by 35 percent or $2.42 billion from the start of this year.

3) Hans Sy -$2.5 billion down 3.8%
4) Herbert Sy – $2.5 billion unchanged

6) Harley Sy – $2.3 billion unchanged
7) Tessie Sy-Coson – $2.2 billion down 4.3%
8) Lucio Tan – $2 billion down 9%
9) Elizabeth Sy – $1.9 billion down 5%
10) Tony Tan Caktiong – $1.9 billion down 5%
11) Andrew Tan – $1.9 billion unchanged
12) Ramon S. Ang – $1.7 billion unchanged
13) Robert Coyiuto Jr. – $1.4 billion down 7%
14) Roberto V. Ongpin – $1.2 billion down 33%
