ARTA: About 1,400 permits to build cell sites have been approved since Aug

The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) on Saturday said in just more than a month, it has approved about 1,400 permits for telephone companies to construct signal towers.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, ARTA Director General Atty. Jeremiah Belgica said the agency has already approved 1,376 permits since August 11 when ARTA issued compliance orders to local government units.

He said that amid the issuance of their compliance orders, problems with the applications of telco companies emerged.

"Nakatulong din ang compliance order na pinadala natin because sila ay ni-require nating magpadala ng compliance report within three days from the receipt. Sa paliwanag nga nila sa amin kulang, so ang ginawa ho natin pinatawag natin pareho ang LGU pati ang mga telcos, doon ho nagkatagpo," Belgica said.

He said there are still about 1,300 permits yet to be issued by local government units.

"Kailangan talaga natin ng mas malakas na tulak, magkakasama, pero at the same time meron pa ring ibang naging pagsuway, 'yun po 'yung ating mga patuloy na iimbestigahan at kung kinakailangan nating kasuhan, gagawin natin. Hopefully, huwag na hong magmatigas kasi hindi ho sila mananalo," Belgica said. -Jamil Santos/MDM, GMA News
